A project to improve the environment of the central shopping area of the town has recently been completed. The planning of this project commenced in 1994 and was scrutinised at many public meetings and during a community consultation process.

The objective has been to make the central retail part of the town more pedestrian friendly without creating a ‘pedestrianised’ area.

The project is also intended to improve the economic well-being of this central retail area and it is on this basis only that funding for the project became available. Work started in the Spring of 2004 with funding coming from the Highland Council Planning & Development Department and Ross & Cromarty Enterprise.
