Port and Cromarty Firth Movements

(click on any thumbnail to see the larger picture)

At times the Firth can be a busy area with Rigs being moored or moved and various activities related to the shore-based births. From the Sutors moving west these births are at the Nigg Oil Terminal, the Saltburn Pier, Admiralty Pier, the Service Base (1, 2, 3 and 4), Queen’s Dock and the Deephaven Supply Base.

The picture right, taken on 9th December 2004, shows the pipelaying vessel Scandi Navica dwarfed by the rig Transocean Rather at the Service Base, Invergordon.
